The Energy You Get: Ashford by Chris Teel
'Ash is such a nice guy! For me he perfectly captures that 'boy next door' vibe I like to shoot - the energy you get from his photos is what he gives off in real life.'
I always love opening my inbox and seeing a message from photographer Chris Teel. It's an added bonus when Chris includes images from a recent shoot. Last week, Chris included two shots from his recent shoot with Ashford Chris has connected with Ashford this past summer when they both attended CreatorCon in Toronto. CreatorCon is a three-day event organized exclusively for adult content creators, photographers, studios, and XXX entrepreneurs. The goal is to network and as you can see from this series of shots, to collaborate creatively with other attendees.
When I opened the two sample shots Chris sent on, I was immediately smitten. Yes, Ashford was incredibly hot, with a great body and his tantalizing furry chest, both shots so beautifully that energy Chris referenced. I could both see and feel Ashford's energy and enthusiasm coming through in each image. Ashford's energy was palpable, and his connection with the camera, and in turn and the viewers with especially vibrant through the twinkle in his eyes and his incredible smile.
When it comes to images of the male form, it's not always 'what you see is what you get', The goal is often to create a fantasy or something artificial. My favorite shoots however, are those where the photographer's goal is to capture the natural beauty and essence of the man in front of their lens. That's exactly what Chris and Ashford achieved with their creative collaboration. This realness also beautifully carried through with Ashford's answers to my questions about his work.
What initially brought you to modeling?
Hmm... I would have to say the artistic imagery that can be created through modeling. The way an image can capture so many things, feeling and emotions. Creating new and diverse imagery it's full of endless opportunities.
Did you consider yourself an exhibitionist?
I would have to say I am a bit of an exhibitionist but also not at the same time... As I am generally a shy kind of guy.
Was modeling nude, or almost nude, part of the initial plan?
I don't know if nude modeling was always a part of the plan. I've always wanted to model for brands and such. I've always had an obsession with underwear. I did try to be a model when I was in junior high and high school but that didn't go anywhere lol.
Do you remember you first nude shoot? How nervous were you?
I do remember my very first nude shoot. I was living in British Columbia, and it's when I first started my X (twitter). He reached out to me and asked if I wanted to do a shoot. It was pouring rain the whole time... And I was so cold 🤣. I was so nervous as I didn't know if I could live up to the expectations of his other models.
How did you connect with Chris?
I connected with Chris through Instagram initially. But I did know of his work for quite some time. I've had quite a few friends shoot with him and It was always a mission to be able.to shoot with them.
Do you remember your first impression of his work?
I loved this work since I first saw their images. It's the softness but also the raw and integrity in his photos that got me hooked.
While posing, are you chatty, or focused on the pose and shot?
Oh I'm a little chatter box... I talked the entire time I shot with Chris.... But I generally talk the entire time I do any sort of shoot. I find it helps me ease into being more comfortable but also the images tend to be much more authentic for me.
Any memories or moments that stand out from the shoot?
One meeting Chris which was great. He is a great guy and it was such a blast. Plus he had lots of little tips about locals and spots to go to. Plus the space that we did the shoot in was absolutely gorgeous. I'm such a fan of old brick buildings and windows and the space did not disappoint.
What did you feel after seeing the final edits?
I've loved every image that's been edited. I tend to have a hard time looking at my own photos and choosing ones I like. I'm way too not picky about myself but Chris was and is very helpful. He is able to narrow down images based on your aesthetic and the image you want to portray.
What was your favorite part about working with Chris?
I honestly loved that it felt like I was shooting with a friend. The dialogue that we had the entire shoot was great. Chris made me feel very comfortable and maybe a bit of goss was discussed but who knows... 😉
What would you say is your favorite part about modeling?
I started the modeling to help build up my self confidence and I would say that's one of my favorite parts. Creating these images that can mean so many different things to so many different people. It's also a form of art and a way to accept the things about myself that I may not particularly like or enjoy. But others do enjoy those little things and it helps open that door to self reflect on why I feel the way I do and such. If that makes any sense.... 🤣.

Horror Hunks: Jesse Lavercombe in Violation
'A troubled woman on the edge of divorce returns home to her younger sister after years apart. But when her sister and brother-in-law betray her trust, she embarks on a vicious crusade of revenge.'
It's October, meaning it's time to bring out the hunks of horror! FH viewers know I love featuring films, television shows and photo shoots with the heteronormative is flipped. That's certainly the case with the horror and psychological drama Violation. In the 2020 Canadian film, creator and writer Jesse Lavercombe plays Dylan, the brother-in-law who pays dearly, and violently, for his betrayal.
'Violation is decidedly dark, potentially dangerous and probably deranged and flips the revenge genre on its head.'
As a writer, Lavercombe is usually creating stories and characters, for film, and for musicals and plays. With Violation, he's helps supporting the vision of two writers and directors. I don't think it's a coincidence when you watch the scene, one of the writer and directors is a woman. The scene is very graphic, turning an erotic encounter into something far more violent.
The scene also stands out as it's Lavercombe's Dylan who is both the victim, and focus of the nudity. Yes, it's graphically violent, but it's so rare to see a male erection in a horror film, especially with directors who don't try to mask or hide the male penis through tricks, quick cuts or prosthetics. As shocking as the scene is within the story itself, it also pushes the boundaries in a positive way with the role reversals.
Audiences have sadly become almost numb to violence on their screens, and are also used to seeing naked, or almost naked women, running for their lives before being butchered by a killer. This scene, still managed to shock through the direction, the writing, and the incredible acting. The film won three of the most prestigious awards for Independent films, at Sundance, TIFF (Toronto International film festival and the NYTimes Critics’ Pick . For his role as Dylan, Lavercombe won the Toronto ACTRA Award as well as being nominated for a Canadian Screen Award .

Just Because: Richard E. Grant
I enjoy the US version of The Traitors, but I've always found the UK version far more enjoyable. Given the US version didn't air an episode last week, I decided to check into the second season of the UK celebrity edition. Although I didn't know half of the contestants, I watch a fair amount of British television, and knew about half of the actors and presenters heading to the castle.
Although there were a few young hotties, I found myself most drawn to the debonair daddy Richard E. Grant. I certain knew of the Swazi-British actor's work, Grant has appeared in several of my favorite films, including Gosford Park and on television in shows including Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones. He was an actor I respected, but wasn't necessarily drawn to....
As he stylishly strutted through the castle however, I found myself having a wee crush on him for the first time. In part it was his look, but in part it was excitement with being in the game. He also tugged at my heart strings discussing his wife, who told him before his death to try to find moments of joy each day.
Grant was certainly joyous at being on the show, and if you watched, maybe too much joy at times. Still, he brought me joy watching and had me Googling to see if he'd had any nude scenes on his long and impressive resume. I found just one, in one of his early movies, and thanks to xyzpdq, (Scenes of Male Skin) found a clip to share.
