Everything in live has a time and place, including attraction. It's been fascinating working on
FH to see how my tastes have changed over time. It's also been interesting to see how my feelings about specific actors has also changed depending on time and place. Last month, I used my changing feelings about actor Jason Bateman to illustrate my point, (
HERE:) today, it's Mr. Baseball up to bat.
Up until recently, I never really got the appeal of Tom Selleck. I've always assumed there are some men who are just more attractive to women than to other men, and always thought that Tom Selleck fit that bill. I remember that my mother and her friends were in lust with Selleck. I was only a kid, and Selleck's Magnum did nothing for me. Even when I got old enough to really crush over actors, Selleck did nothing for me, and at the time, found his hairy chest and mustache more repelling than appealing.
Selleck and I have never really connected time wise. I didn't like him as a kid on
Magnum, and I didn't understand what Monica saw in him on
Friends. I'm also not currently drawn to him, nor have any desire to watch
Blue Bloods. But... time and place.
A few months ago I caught the actor on an old episode of
Friends. Now it was twenty years ago that Selleck guest starred as Dr. Richard Burke and although I didn't get his appeal the first go around, twenty years later, I finally understood what Monica was talking about.
I didn't think too much about until I was recently putting together my Battle of the Network Stars tribute. (
HERE:) All of a sudden, I found myself drawn to those old shots of Selleck in his blue speedo from his
Magnum PI days. I was especially 'stimulated' by Tom's beautiful long legs. I realized I have now crushed over two periods of of Tom's career that I'd previously had no interest in. I guess maybe I can look forward to many weekend
Blue Bloods marathons twenty or thirty yearsfrom now....
My interest in Tom Selleck was so lacking, I'd never really even bothered to check to see if he'd done a nude scene. I sort of assumed he hadn't. Low and behold, he did actually do two butt scenes. The first isn't that exciting, a short, dark and badly lit butt scene in 1984's
Lassiter. His butt scene in 1992's
Mr. Baseball was actually much better. In the film, Tom's butt is filmed from a distance, with teammates interrupting viewers from having an extended view. Capping the scene however, allowed me to pull in a little closer and given I didn't expect to find anything, it was a pleasant surprise.
