Kevin Csolak: All I Need...

This past week, I really went down the  Youtube rabbit hole.  I often listen to music in the evening, and Sunday night, I headed to listen to Bruno Mars, and On My Soul, one of my favorite songs from The Romantic.  Aa I was listening, I noticed a new song, (video) on the left hand side that I hadn't noticed before.  The video was for a performance of At the Ballet from A Chorus Line

Normally I would have ignored it, I'm not a huge fan of that particular show. This version howver, was a live performance featuring Broadway legends Audra McDonald, Megan Hilty and Kelli O’Hara.  Loving all three women I quickly clicked play.  As expected, with these three talents, I loved the version of the song they performed. (HERE:)

This had me thinking about Audra's turn as Rose last season on Broadway.  Her Tony performance of Rose's Turn still looms large in my mind.  I started to listen to all of Audra's songs when another song from Gypsy came into my mind.  This time, it wasn't one from Rose, but what I believe is the only song performed by the character of Tulsa.

I was quickly clicking and listening to the character singing All I Need is the Girl. (HERE:)  I was never in Gypsy, but during my time auditioning for shows, I used this song for a time at auditions.  Because it's also a big dance number, it was a good performance piece for shows where both singing and dancing were equally important for the character I was audition for.

Although I was only listening to the song, I was visualizing the dance I'd both previously seen and performed.  This had me wondering who played Tulsa in this production, motivating to head to the IBDB.  There I saw that it was actor Kevin Csolak who sang and danced the role.  This wasn't the actor's first time singing and dancing on stage having appeared previously on Broadway in The Outsiders, West Side Story,  Mean Girls and Dr.Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

West Side Story

As you can probably guess from the behind the scene image above, Csolak also appeared in the big screen version of West Side Story, playing Diesel, the strong, steady, and loyal second-in-command to the Jets leader Riff. Some of you may also know the talented actor from his turns on Boardwalk Empire, The Mick and Law & Order SVU.

Csolak also had a recurring role, and a nude scene on TNT's Animal Kingdom. (pictured here) I have to thank Bruno and Audra for leading me to officially meet the talented and ultra hot Mr. Csolak and his work.  Thanks also to AusCaps for the caps!
