A Question Of Character

Ian Somerhalder always expressed himself strongly in his early modeling photos but assuming the role of Damon on The Vampire Diaries, never had a role that matched his confidence and raw sexuality. When looking his recent shoot with photographer Butch Hogan (below) you can tell the actor has finally found a role that allows him to really show all he has to offer.

Rules Of Attraction

Although I loved him when I first saw him in The Young Americans and in The Rules Of Attraction, Ian quickly became defined by his lackluster role on Lost, a show that wasted his talents, making him little more than background in the shows first season and killing him off before the end of the first year. Watching him emote and chew up every scene he is in on VD, it must have been stifling on that Island, watching some less talented actors around him get the meatier scenes and storylines. Glad the once lost, has now been found.

Kudos to Seth Meyers & Barack Obama

Kudos to Seth Meyers & Barack Obama who both took on Trump last night at The White House Correspondents Dinner with Hilarious results! You can check out the C-Span video's HERE: The red carpet video was especially interesting. Where else would you see Ian Somerhalder, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Newt Gingrich, Joan Rivers & Donna Brazile all in the same room.

It's Premiere Month!

Here are a few of the shows whose return I am looking forward to:

Vampire Diaries:

Vampire Diaries actually began this past week but I did not watch. I am however about half way through season 1 on DVD. I bought the set due to great word of mouth and Ian Somerhalder. I am loving it due to great storytelling, great pacing and Steven R. McQueen (Steve's grandson). If you turn away from all things Vampire you should give this show a try. It is on the WB so it is not 'True Blood' but it is still sexy, disturbing and addictive.

Glee:
Other Asian! YUM!
My only complaint, why when 'Brittany' and 'Santana' have become series regulars does Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr) remain not???

Brothers & Sisters:
If a show ever needed a time warp jump it is 'Brothers & Sisters'. Always one of my favorite shows, last season was down right depressing (except for Gilles Marini whose 'stunt' casting actually paid off). I for one will not miss Rob Lowe. Initially he was a great addition, but you could recently clearly see, that with the exception of his scenes with Matthew Rhys, he had little to no interest in being part of an ensemble show. I wish the writers had sent Luke Macfarlane off with him. I know most fans love 'Scotty' but I think the writers have sacrificed 'Kevin' due to the positive audience reaction to 'Scotty'. 'Kevin', once one of the shows best characters is, with 'Scotty', written as a selfish whiny bore. It is time for Matthew Rhys to have the restriction of a husband lifted from his character. It is also looking like this could be the shows last year. I am hoping the limited episode number means they are cutting costs to help keep the show, not cut it lose. So few family dramas like Brothers & Sisters survive, I would hate to lose this one too soon.

Grey's Anatomy:
I look forward to the September 23 season premiere of 'Grey's Anatomy' with trepidation. I love the show but hated the season 6 finale. Over the top, manipulative and sensational are the words that came to mind when I watched. This show, so well well written, so well acted has a reputation of being an over the top soap, but I always felt the writing and acting (especially by Pompeo, Chambers and Oh) kept it real. The season finale told critics the show is indeed what they have been calling it. Hopefully series creator and writer Shonda Rhimes will ground the show again in character driven drama without going for 'sweeps stunts' whenever she gets the chance.

Lost Now Found: Ian Somerhalder

Just so you know I am not watching Lost. Lost is a favorite show of mine, but I do not enjoy it in one hour weekly installments. I do however enjoy watching it on DVD where I can pause, re watch certain scenes and not have to wait a week between the end of one episode and the beginning of another. Even with the Internet I have been actually able to avoid most of the big spoilers to enjoy the show.

I was however very happy to read articles at the beginning of this past season that many of the characters who have disappeared or died earlier in the series would be brought back for brief appearances in the last season. I was most excited to see the return of Ian Somerhalder's Boone.

To many, Boone may not even be really that well remembered. The first of the main cast to be 'killed' off, Boone did leave a big impact. To me however, watching on DVD, Boone has become one of the shows more interesting characters to watch. Boone is a mystery. Between his complicated relationship with his sister, his connection to Locke, his sexuality, he fascinated me. Somerhalder is also a damned fine actor, much better than than you would know if you only saw him on Lost. He is the one character who never really got to have a 'big moment'. Most of those who 'die' on Lost, go out big before they are laid to rest. Somerhalder flew to Hawaii for a couple of days to appear in the Lost finale. Although I do not expect the show to devote much time to Boone, I hope he gets a chance for a bit of closure. Whenever Boone shows up (which he does usually once a twice a season) he seems to be waiting, waiting for what I am not sure, but something is unfinished. I have enjoyed how he pops up each season, usually with Locke.

Good for Somerhalder for turning his Lost departure into something wonderful. After a series of movies and short lived projects, Somerhalder is finally getting the respect he deserves in his role in Vampire Diaries. Diaries is not only using Somerhalder's looks, but he also gets to show off his acting chops. Good to see an Actor I love getting a project and a role that matches his talent.

Favorite Birthday Boy for December 8th Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder just gets hotter! Ian has been taking on some great projects since he was sadly killed off 'Lost'. I was just starting to get into 'Tell Me You Love Me' before it was cancelled. Ian turns 30 today.

Favorite Birthday Boy for August 24th Carmine Giovinazzo

Many know hotties Carmine Giovinazzo from CSI NY, but I have fond memories of him from Billy's Hollywood Screentest, Shasta McNasty and other projects. Certainly an underated actor and underated hunk!

Carmine in 'In Enemy's Hands' I have posted this pic before, but it is a great pic!
