Favorite 5: C Thomas Howell

Although I did see E.T of course, my lust for actor C. Thomas Howell came more through his appearances in teen magazines than movies and televisions shows I actually watched when I was a kid. I have since seen The Outsiders and many of Howell's flicks, The Hitcher being one of my favorites. You could get lost in Howell's dreamy eyes, and that face and those lips even overcame the unfortunate mullet phase.

Howell is still active in the film industry and has a slew of projects due for release over the next couple of years. He is also quite active on Twitter, and looks mighty fine in a fairly recent image (above) he posted on his Twitter page.

Battling With The Stars

This one is a bit of cheat, but in this Outsiders pic, Howell looks adorably uncomfortable with Matt Dillon in his tighty whities.

I used to order these Japanese movie magazines on E-Bay.  They were full of images never released in American.  Sadly they became too expensive with some now going up to fifty bucks a pop.

Come on now....

Although calling 1985 'vintage' is a bit of stretch, this image of C Thomas Howell from Secret Admirer,  has me wanting to find the 1985 flick.

And then there's this... but not sure screen caps count.

New To The Walk Away list: C. Thomas Howell in To Protect & Serve

One of my favorite posts was back in 2008 when I did my motion picture 'Walk-Away' list. Four years later it is time to go back to the vault and update the list with scenes from movies I have seen since the original list.

In the meantime, one of my favorite places to visit, Casperfan's cap site added some of the best caps I have seen of C. Thomas Howell from 1992's To Protect And Serve. C. Thomas should tide you over until I update the list!

A Cautionary Tale: The Outsiders

Although I preferred S.E. Hinton's novel over the movie, 1983's The Outsiders is beloved by many. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the movie featured a cast of up and coming young actors many of whom went on to become huge stars. Emilio Estevez, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, C. Thomas Howell and Matt Dillon.

There comes a point in every young actor's (or actress') career when you must make the decision whether or not to drop trou for a role. Many of our greatest actors (Streep, Winslet, De Niro, Brando) have chosen to do nude scenes on film. With The Outsiders, one actor did not. I am not sure if it is a coincidence or not but it seems in the case of the movies cast, showing a little skin could be in some ways be connected to success.

The one hold out may not agree...

Tom Cruise in All The Right Moves

Rob Lowe in Young Blood

Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse

Emilio Estevez in Young Guns

Matt Dillon in Factotum

Beyond Tiger Beat

When I was a kid growing up the 80's and 90's, most of the visuals I saw of the male form came from teen star magazines.  This was before I actually saw an issue of Playgirl or an image of a nude male, other than possible in an Anatomy book or a National Geographic.   I also was naive enough to think buying an issue of Tiger or Teen Beat magazine was something all 12 year old hetro boys did.

I 'pretended' it was for images of Alyssa Milano, but looking back, I don't think I was fooling anyone.  Although Alyssa may have been on my walls, it was the shirtless shots of Richard Grieco, River Phoenix, Kirk Cameron and the guys from 90210 that motivated my tiger beating.  I never would have thought that 10, 20 and even 30 years later, I'd be seeing so many of the teen idols I crushed over, naked in nude scenes.

It's really not that surprising though.  So many actors, especially those typecast as teen heartthrobs, tried breaking from the brat, or teen idol pack, but doing edgier roles when they got older.   Many of those roles included a little nudity.   If you check out the cast of The Outsiders, all of the main male cast members went on to appear nude on screen with the lone exception being Ralph Macchio.

One of the cutest Outsiders, and most adorable faces in Tiger Beat, was actor C. Thomas Howell who played Ponyboy in the film.   Howell actually didn't wait to long to appear nude on-screen,  and had his first nude scene when he was 21, about four years after making The Outsiders.  The film was 1987's A Tiger's Tale in which Howell hits the hay with actress Ann-Margret.

To Protect and Serve (1992)

The nudity was quick and flashed by in a second, but I believe he even had a split second frontal after removing his tighty whities and getting into bed.  I recently re-watched the scene and was going to cap it, but I think the movie only had a VHS release and the quality wasn't great.  Howell did have a few other butt scenes in the 80's and 90's, my favorite being in 1992's To Protect and Serve.  I loved watching, rewinding, and rewatching, Howell's perfect butt as he got out bed and walked across the room.

Obliterated (2023)

Of course this brings us to the scene I know many of you have already seen.  I had not heard of the new Netflix series Obliterated until seeing Howell's frontal on another site.  Sometimes you have to be patient, and it really was worth the decades long wait.  Howell, now in his fifties, actually looks older than his age with the gray hair, but his body looks as trim and hot as ever.  I haven't watched the show, but given Howell's nude scene, and his hot co-stars, including actor Nick Zano, I'm going to give it a shot.

Happy Birthday today December 7th to:

Actor Nicholas Hoult who some of you may know from 'Skins' and 'A Single Man' turns 22 today.

I have many fond memories of C. Thomas Howell who turns 44 today. C. Thomas has quite a few projects coming out soon, so hopefully we will be seeing more of him on tv and in movies soon!
