Frisky Frolic: It's Beginning...

'To Look A Lot Like Christmas...'

I tend to start celebrating the holidays earlier than most.  I don't mean fully decorating or putting up my Christmas Tree, I still haven't got that up!  But, in about mid-November I brought in some branches, put up some white lights and hauled out a few winter decorations and my snow globes with the snow sculpture and the red cardinal.

It was about that same time FH started inching towards holiday related posts.  Although the hunks in Santa hats came later,  my 12 Days holiday hunk series began about the same time in mid-November and the countdown to Christmas was on.  I don't know about you, but there are certain things, and certain signs that really have it looking, and feeling, a lot like Christmas.  For me, it's when I hear from JayBee from Frisky Frolic about his latest holiday shoot.

JayBee was really one of the first photographers that I found, that I really thought was as crazed about holiday imagery as I was.  I'll never forget first discovering his Flickr page and finding naked ghosts and goblins, a slew of sexy Santa's and models with furry Easter bunny ears as their only form of fashion.   JayBee's imagery has helped FH celebrate almost every holiday of the year since 2012.  Although a move across country created a temporary hiatus, I was thrilled when JayBee shot me a message on Instagram earlier this year letting me know that Frisky Frolic was back!

What I love so much about JayBee's work is explained clearly in his brand name of Frisky Frolic.  His images are spotlighting the fun, tapping into the excitement and joy we all felt about holidays when we were kids.  I especially love JayBee's ability to so skillfully tap into that creative imagination we all experienced as kids.  That wonderment of being in our fifth grade art class in the middle of December gluing cotton balls onto a paper plate to represent Santa's fluffy white beard.

So, while the folic may take us back to fifth grade, and the anticipation we felt as Christmas approached, the frisky is a little more adult.  JayBee combines that childhood wonder, with a mature erotic edge.  Although the images may appear to be straight forward, they are holiday, but with an erotic edge and a Frisky Frolic twist.

In this series, the adorable Ezra at first,  looks so sweet posing in Santa's sac.  it soon becomes clear however, Ezra has more than visions of sugar plums dancing in his head.  His head is more focused on Jeff, his late night hookup who just arrived.  Ezra tries to be nice, but at night, he veers more towards naughty.  Ezra is fine with taking his chances with 1 day of  receiving coal.  Especially if it means the other 364 days are filled with frisky fun.

Frisky Frolic: Entering 2020 In Style

'Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu'

Before one can enter anywhere in style, including sashaying into the new year, one must first bid adieu to the old, to the past.  At Frisky Frolic Enterprises, CEO JayBee knows exactly how this can be accomplished.

Most company's have an office Christmas party, but JayBee always found it difficult to get all of his hard working employee's together before the holidays.  After the 25th however, most were looking for a way to unwind, let loose, and shake off all the family drama, not to mention that third helping of stuffing!

At Frisky Frolic Enterprises, the annual holiday party is on December 31st and the dress code... stylishly naked of course!  Formal, yet free.  As you can see from these vintage shots of some of Frisky Frolic's top executives, you can be dressed to the nines, and totally undressed, all at the same time!

The yearly rituals and rules remain the same; no complaints, no kids and no clothes!  Arrive early, and be prepared to stay late.  Bring your significant other, if you must, but be prepared to dance with everyone!  The champagne flows freely and at 11:55pm , JayBee leads a  toast to the past year.  Then... it begins.  The music gets louder, and all party guests must begin their own waltz, tap, jazz or ballroom salute to the new year ahead!

Given December 31st 2019 marked not only the end of a year, but the end of a decade, this year's party, and this years dance salute, was even more significant.  These shots, from the early days of Frisky Frolic, and from one of the company's first year end parties, are hung in the company's board room. JayBee feels the photos provide both great memories of the parties, and give new hires... a tease and taste of what's to come!

Another Snow Day with Frisky Frolic!

'A snow day literally and figuratively falls from the sky, unbidden, and seems like a thing of wonder.'
Susan Orlean

I've featured this set from Frisky Frolic before, but they really do encapsulate so beautifully, and so perfectly, the spirit of a snow day.

When we were all kids, snow days were about sledding, snow angels, building a snow man, hot chocolate, skating and making money shovelling driveways. Most of these activities occurred outside, in the actual snow... As we get older, for many of us, snow days have become about about comfort food, binge watching Netflix and then heading back. (if we ever left) our beds.

One of the reasons I love the work of JayBee from Frisky Frolic, is his ability, to magically take me visually, and emotionally back to the weightlessness I felt as a kid. A time when when life was an adventure, risks were frequent, and when our imagination was the part of our brain that took up the most of our time and attention. I shared a few of the images from this set a couple of years ago, but Jay graciously sent on a few more to finish the story.

I must admit, although I have skinning dipped in the summer, and have frequently ran out into my backyard naked in the darkness of night, I have never ran out into the snow during the daylight hours. Frisky Frolic's imagery may not get me to do so, but certainly has me imagining how incredibly fun and exciting it would be!

'This wasn't a planned shoot. One of my regular models was stopping by that morning to pick up something, and he had another friend with him. So I said, do you guys mind running naked through the snow so I can get a few pics. One of these right moment, right time, and we captured it.'

Eating Crow by Frisky Frolic

She let the critter get away.
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee,
knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, willoby-wallaby,
Now, now, now!

Back in 1952, English novelist Daphne du Maurier (aka Lady Browning) published a short novel and some short stories entitled The Apple Tree: One of the stories is a chilling tale called The Birds, an environmentally-conscious fable about a population of birds who start attacking humans after a harsh winter depletes their natural food supply.

Hitchcock read and liked the basic premise and wanted to put The Birds on film. However, his film would be far from a faithful retelling. Once Hitchcock bought the rights to du Maurier,  he hired screenwriter Evan Hunter to pen a script.  Hunter remembers Hitchcock wanted to rid of the original story and wanted the focus to be squarely on the birds attacking people.

The Birds (1963)
Visual Interpretation

At FH, Halloween and artist JayBee, (Frisky Frolic) go hand in hand.  JayBee's imagery helped inspire my annual Halloween themed posts after I first discovered his incredible imagery over 12 years ago.  Since then, his costumed hotties, his witches, his ghosts, and now his crows have  been apart of almost every FH Halloween celebration since.

There were over 3000 birds trained for the making of the movie. Most of birds were wild-caught crows, ravens, seagulls, and sparrows. Through a meticulous positive reinforcement process, animal handler Ray Berwick trained hundreds of live birds for use in Hitchcock’s movie.

Berwick oversaw an entire bird-wrangling team whose members spent a huge amount of time corralling their feathered co-workers between takes. Berwick thought that the ravens were the cleverest, and the seagulls were the most vicious.  The crows however, were the birds most remember, especially from that chilling scene in the school yard.

Crows are a rare breed of bird that have actually managed to changed their reputation over the years.  Once thought of as mostly annoying scavengers,  animal research has taught us how intelligent crows actually are.  In addition to having excellent memories, crows have also been observed using basic tools to aid in accomplishing their tasks.

Crows are also the the bird most closely associated with witches, with evil and with deathcr.  This of course makes crows the perfect avian for All Hallow's Eve. When I asked JayBee if he'd ever shot anything Hitchcock related, he remembered a shoot in his archives of a model in a crow themed costumed he shot a few years ago.  JayBee had a hard time finding the images in his extensive archive, but even though crows are also associated with bad omens and bad luck, JayBee managed to find his feathered friend just in time for Halloween!

The Balloon Bouquet: Cody by Frisky Frolic

'That big bubble butt of his...'

While I was scrolling through JayBee's (Frisky Frolic) portfolio for the Super Bowl post, I saw an image of Cody holding a blue balloon.   I'd seen that specific image previously, but it was the only shot of Cody with balloons that I'd seen.  I of course had to ask if there were more.  As you can see, there were!  This series has not been seen before, and I'm grateful to Jaybee for digging into his archives to share them with the site.

I love visuals of the male form with balloons.  Maybe it's the kid in me, but I love the pops of color and what a creative and versatile prop they can be.  In additions to adding color, they can also both at to cover a model's body, (or body part) and also as a unique backdrop.  I think I also love the connection between balloons with parties, with fun and with celebration.  Given FH is a celebration of the male form, they make a perfect accompaniment, especially when shot by an artist with the imaginative creativity of Frisky Frolic.

When it comes to imagery of the male form, one of the elements that draws me in is storytelling.  JayBee always manages to tell such relatable stories through his work.  For me, JayBee's visuals always manage to evoke not just memories but a very specific state of mind. Sadly we tend to s lose that 'Christmas morning' sense of excitement, especially when grown-up responsibilities take over.  Jaybee manages to evoke that  childlike magic we all felt when we were younger.

Jay is in the middle of a site revamp, but in the meantime, be sure to check out his Instagram
