Cutting The Chord!

Call me crazy but I don't really think Chord Overstreet or his fans have anything to worry about. Yes I know it was announced last weekend (on the last day of Glee's tour in the UK) that Darren Criss and Harry Shum Jr were getting promoted to regulars and Chord was not but I have a feeling Sam will still be a regular fixture next season.

Ryan Murphy is not always completely honest when he discusses the show (he gave so many mixed messages and lies about Kurt's love interest last season). Chord is popular with the fans, totally adorable, willing to go shirtless, and often and immensely talented. (Chord's version of Baby Baby actually had me liking the dumb song!). Harry Shum has been a 'guest star' since first appearing in the shows forth episode Preggers, but has appeared in pretty much every episode since. Jessalyn Gilsig, Jayma Mays, Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley have all been regulars the past two years and often are given little, or nothing to do for weeks at a time.

The show still has not found a way to properly use Jane Lynch. Jane's Sue has not hit the right note since early in season 1. She is either underused or overused to the point of becoming an annoying cartoon.

Being a regular on Glee does not guarantee an actor screen time or storyline, that is usually up to the whim of Ryan Murphy. Usually his whims run between Lea Michelle and Chris Colfer with not much room for the rest of the cast most times anyway. I could be wrong but I think we will be seeing about as much as Sam next season as we did next.

Chord should have joined Shum and Criss, Dianna Agron and Jenna Ushkowitz on Keenan Cahill's new youtube vido of Katy Perry's Last Friday Night! Oh How I love me some Harry!

Glee: American A-

Asian F

Asian F is getting a lot of positive buzz today and for good reason. Arguably one of the shows best episodes in a long time, the show finally delivered this season on Ryan Murphy's promise to focus on character development, especially on some the shows tragically underused talent. Although Mercedes did not get the part of Maria in West Side Story, Amber Riley finally took on the role of female lead for an episode. Riley was incredible but the writers somehow felt the need to trash her character in order to spotlight it. I could be wrong but I don't remember even a hint of anything in the past to indicate Mercedes was not a hard worker or lazy. Making the 'big' girl fat and lazy was a little lazy on behalf of the writers. I will move quickly past it though as it pushed the story to a place Amber could shine. I moan in almost every Glee post the loss of Chord Overstreet, but every scene with Mercedes new boyfriend makes his absence that much sadder.

Jayma Mays and Emma have always been a favorite of mine and for two years besides a couple of moments in season one the character has almost not existed on the Glee Canvas. I hope this week marks the end of this. Ginger Supremacists, brilliant, Mays painful reaction to them, priceless! The only downfall to Emma's storyline is that lately Will has been written as such an ass their finally coming together has lost some of the payoff it might have had.

Boy Boy Crazy Boy!

Obviously the MVP of Asian F is Harry Shum Jr. I have LOVED Harry since I first saw him in Preggars and featured a profile of Harry shortly after. We all knew he could dance and finally the show allowed him to shine. It is a testament to good writing (Ian Brennan) and directing (Alfonso Gomez-Rejón) that a long term character can surprise. Harry's venerability was not out of character, yet, a complete surprise. Kudos for finally giving someone other than Kurt and Finn, conflict with a parent. It is as much apart of high school as cheer leading and Glee club.

Now... Glee just has that same pesky problem that it often encounters, following up brilliance with crap. There is a reason people (like moi) who love this show are so critical. The show is off the schedule for three weeks so we will see if the November return brings more Asian F's or more countless scenes of Rachel and Kurt belting Barbara...

P.S: If Darren Criss is off making a movie, write Blaine off visiting a relative, even though I love and would have missed him, his obvious pre-shot scenes were too obvious and for me kept halting the flow.

Just Because: Harry Shum Jr

Just Because: I can't be the only one whose eyes focus on Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr) while watching the group numbers on 'Glee'. From first noticing Harry on the football field singing 'Put A Ring On It', Harry has the moves! Last night he had a couple of lines as well. Maybe a storyline one day. So adorable, so talented!

Boyfriend Buffet

I think I'll start with Harry Shum Jr. as my appetizer...

This shot is a few years old, but I just discovered it's hottness. Bullet Magazine assembled some of the sexiest men of television for this 2012 shot to promote some of Televisions's hottest Heartthrobs. I have featured almost all of them at one time or another and they make a delicious looking spread. After finishing off with Harry, maybe I'll go alphabetically making Mr. Amell the next course.

Just Because: Harry Shum Jr.

Against my better judgement I purchased the first half of of Glee's second season this week. I say against my better judgement as I could have saved a bit of money by waiting til the fall and gotten the entire season. There were some moments though, mostly involving Harry Shum Jr I was looking forward to seeing again. Sing from the Duets episode was a stand out as was Harry's dancing on Make Em Laugh and Valerie.

Kudos to Glee

Glee
accomplished a few things this week that surprised me...

Firstly, as much as she has been awarded with various honors in her close to 20 years in movies and on tv I have never once enjoyed a Gwyneth Paltrow performance. Even in movies I did enjoy like The Talented Mr. Ripley, Gwyneth always got on my nerves. Kudos to Glee for not only giving her a role I liked, but a performance I loved.

Those of us who love Harry Shum Jr didn't need his incredible turn in Make Em Laugh to know he should have been made a series regular long ago. Thankfully the show finally saw he is too good to lose and Harry will be a series regular next season!

Hit & Miss: Gentlemen's Quarterly

One of the many magazines I purchase each month is GQ. I spend far too much money on magazines but I love having a pile in the house to grab when needed. These two celebrity shots from recent issues sparked a hit and a bit of a miss...

My very first post (first of many) posts about Glee was back in November 2009. The post's focus was on Harry Shum Jr. From the second he appeared on screen dancing in 'Single Ladies' I knew there was something special about him. With all the talented performers on Glee, nothing makes me smile more than Harry's dancing each week. So glad the rest of the media has finally caught on to the magic. Harry is featured in this months Rock issue of GQ.

There is really not much left to say about this story...

I have little respect for this family and truthfully the people who support them. Their main function is to take money from the celebrity addicted American public. It is reported the couple, who filed for divorce 72 days after the lavish wedding, made about $17.5 million off their big day. I am sure this story will be joked about on late night TV shows and by most comedians. But...given the financial stresses on most Americans, not to mention gay marriage still being against the laws in most States, this story is far more depressing, insulting and sad than most will ever realize...

Happy Birthday today April 28th

Happy 37th to Harry Shum Jr.!

Check out more of today's BIRTHDAYS HERE:

Harry was my favorite guy from Glee, and so glad to watch the success he's had in TV and film.  Glee showcased his dancing skills, but never really gave him much story or opportunities to shine as an actor.

A Gleesome Threesome

I'm usually about two or three episodes behind with most of the television shows that I watch.  I've struggled a bit with How to Get Away With Murder, but given it's in it's final season, decided to stick with it.  Glad that I did, in addition to the ultra hot Rome Flynn, the story has picked up as the series  heads to it's finale.   Last week, while watching the forth episode of the season, a familiar face came across the screen.

I knew that I was familiar with the actor, but I needed to check IMDB base just to be sure.  Yes indeed, the hottie joining Oliver and Connor (Conrad Ricamora and Jack Falahee) for a threesome, was Glee's Dijon Talton.   If you're a fan of Glee you'll remember Dijon (Matt) joined the show early in the first season as part of the football team in the episode Preggers.

The episode became a favorite not only as it introduced Matt and Mike (Harry Shum Jr) to the show, it also featured Kurt's rendition of Single Ladies with the school's football team. I always felt a bit bad for both Dijon and Matt.  Although Harry remained with the show for a few more seasons,

I Hate The World (HTGAWM)

Matt was written out in season 2 to make room for the additions of Chord Overstreet and Darren Chris.  While on the show, Matt was a regular part of New Direction, and was in all of the groups big musical numbers.  Glad to ssee Dijon back on TV, and looking hotter than ever!

Silly Harry! Had you gone shirtless (a state you should always be), everyone would have known who you are!

Hitting the Right Chord ♫

If you're a long time reader of FH, you know I was a big fan of Glee, especially the first two seasons.  I posted about the show, and my favorites, (Harry Shum Jr. and Chord Overstreet) many times on the site.  But... by season 3 I sort of grew tired and lost interest.  That tends to happen with Ryan Murphy shows, they start off incredible, then go downhill.

By season 3, most of my favorite characters, (Mike, Mercedes, Tina, Quinn and Sam) were moved to the background while some of the most annoying characters, (Rachel and Kurt) were always front and center belting away.  The stories became less balanced and silly and by the time the show sputtered out, I'd stopped watching completely.

That's why I met news of the new reboot with more hesitation than excitement.  The show is shrouded with complications, from cast deaths, to rumors of horrible cast behavior and relationships.  I know not all of the cast look back fondly on their time on the show.  Still, if done properly it could work.  One of the reasons so many loved and watched the show was the music.  With the right story, and the right music, it could work.

I'm just not really that interested in seeing Rachel and Kurt dominating the songs, and Sue as a Maga maniac.  Jane Lynch was amazing as Sue, but I don't think I could stomach her cruelty given all the actual cruelty so prevalent in our current society.  I'm sure I'll check it out, but I hope Murphy doesn't repeat the issues with the last few seasons and balances the stories with all of the cast and not just the favored few.

Glee: Asian, Other Asian

Above: The New Hollywood Reporter features some 'favorite' cast members from Glee.

For your Emmy consideration:
Submitted by FOX

Comedy Series: Glee
Comedy Actor: Matthew Morrison
Comedy Actress: Lea Michele
Comedy Supporting Actor: Max Adler, Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith, Mike O'Malley, Chord Overstreet, Mark Salling
Comedy Supporting Actress: Dianna Agron, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera
Comedy Guest Actor: Darren Criss
Comedy Guest Actress: Carol Burnett, Kristin Chenoweth, Ashley Fink, Dot Marie Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charice Pempengco

Notice anything strange about the above list... Might be small to some, but to me the fact that every single main cast member and guest star (even the horrid acting of Charice) got something Glee and Fox deemed EMMY worthy this past season except for Harry Shum Jr. & Jenna Ushkovitz.

Do I think there is racism involved, no, not at all. But... the fact that Asian, and other Asian are the only two cast members not on the list is more shocking than surprising. Not surprising because neither character was given much to do all season long. It is shocking though that with such a huge cast the teachers pets (Kurt, Blaine, Santana, Brittany and even Lauren) get great scenes and story lines week after week while Tina and Mike get left with little or nothing to do. (Mike didn't even get a line last night that I could see). With such a large cast it is excusable that some get left out now and then but... If it continues into next season..it will be more than just an oversight....
