Most readers of FH know my passion for the use of windows within photography of the male form. So... when I saw the incredible image of model Joey Suarez above, I knew I wanted to find out a bit more about the model, and the artist who captured Joey, so beautifully capturing the view.
San Antonio photographer Cibo states he specializes in sensual male images which appeal to the men and women who love men. Many artists use the term sensual, but not all of them successfully blend it within their images as exquisitely as Cibo is able to. In order to capture the sensual essence of a subject, you have to focus as much on a model's soul as you do their specific body parts. The emotion comes not from how big, toned, or tanned a particular body part looks but instead, how the model's body, their eyes in particular, are able to channel the photographers vision. Cibo loves working with all models regardless of experience but says there is often a fluidity to the creative process when working with an experienced model like 21 year old Joey Suarez that improves the end creative result exponentially as well as often being economically more efficient.
'I love working with new models for sure, but it may take more than one session to really get solid images. In a perfect world they would all be like Joey Suarez in terms of being an absolute professional. I think Joey is a major talent. He just has finished a new music video, he has acted in films, writes and performs his own music and regularly sings and dances in live musicals. Joey is a busy guy an in my opinion I consider him an exceptional model to work with.'
Joey's experience in front of the camera comes from years of training and hard work in order to seamlessly channel the complexities of emotion through whatever art form he working within. A professionally trained actor, pianist, vocalist, dancer, and music director Joey is able to use skills from one area to compliment and improve another. Artists, singers and dancers especially, often have an ability to create through movement, pose and emotion some of my favorite, and most memorable captured moments. Joey perceives each skill and profession as a piece of the another and utilizes new experiences and talents to improve, and learn more about, the ones he has already embarked on.
It was Casperfan's site that first introduced me to stripper Danny Steel in the documentary Confessions Of A Male Stripper. Although I am posting the entire show below, Casperfan has a lot of captures of Danny from the documentary as well as a download of most Danny's best moments.
Danny is simply delicious! I am not sure if his appeal translates in images, it was his adorable accent and hopeful enthusiasm that attracted me, even before the skivvies were pulled down.
A former international rugby player, after an injury, Danny decided to put years of finely tuning his athletic physique for something just as exciting as international rugby, stripping! One of the UK's youngest strippers, the documentary explores Danny's first time on stage, taking it all off and being educated on the necessity of using a penis pump.
Danny and Lotan (below) were two of my favorites from the documentary which I encourage you to check out. Both had dreams of becoming famous and adored, Danny still the dreamer, whereas Lotan has had his full of groping women, and the lifestyle. Danny seems to roll with whatever happens on stage, even when he loses his flag...
Confessions of A Male Stripper seeks to explore the lives of the men who choose to take it all off for cash. To me, it's true revelation is something many of us have known for years. Women, when in power, don't just demonstrate the same strong sexual appetite as men, they show an equal, or even greater perpensity towards aggression than most men. These women are out for more than just a fun night on the town...
Although Danny is enthusiastic and hopeful, there is a sadness laced within his story, of one dream cut short, and another possibly unattainable and unrealistic. All that being said, there is something intensely likable and endearing about Danny, a quality that comes across more when he's speaking, than stripping. Whatever that quality is, if Danny were able to market, I would want to buy.
'I would love to say I don’t care about self-image, but I’d be lying. I got about twelve hairs on my chest and a snail train, so they have to go, the occasional sunbed and I moisturise everyday, but I’ve done that since I was ten.'
Although it was Danny that initiated my viewing of Confessions Of A Male Stripper, it was Lotan who most intrigued me. Incredibly hot, incredibly smart mixed in with a heaping dose of Douchebag.
Unlike Danny, still enthusiastic and native about the realities of the business, Lotan has moved towards and through being bitter. I am not being critical of him, just the opposite. Lotan's dream was never to slip off his undies for a room full of screaming fans, despite how great he looks doing it. Lotan was scouted after being seen dancing, and the promise of big money for little work was far too enticing.
The reality is though, the money is not that great and the work harder than promised. Being a stripper may only require you to be on for a couple of hours a day, or less. But, in order to maintain the body needed, many of the other 23 hours of the day are devoted to maintaining the body others pay to want to see. It is also not a long career, so pretty much as soon as you get even a little bit of success, you're already pretty much yesterday's news.
Even with his attitude, I liked Lotan. Yes, he was arrogant, some might even felt him homophobic for his displeasure at having to take a gig at a gay club. I didn't see him that way really. I saw more a man, like so many others, who realized his dreams are slipping away and is tired of being groped, manhandled, mostly by women, and manipulated by company's profiting off of his back, and backside. In the documentary, Lotan is bitter at everyone, his boss, his customers and himself. His uncomfortably at stripping at the gay club, (although his facial expressions were sort of erotically fun) was equally matched by his distain for stripping for women as well.
