'They eat screams and drink pain.'
Hallorann
It's been 27 years since audiences were first introduced ti the nude male form belonging to actor Ewan McGregor. It was 1993, and the project was one of Ewan's first role. Ewan showed it all in the BBC 1 production of the historical war drama The Scarlet And The Black.
Ewan was just 22 when he made The Scarlet And The Black, and unlike many actors who only appear nude early in their career's, Ewan has never stopped. In the last 27 years, Ewan's appeared nude, both butt and full frontal in close to 20 films, including several times over the past few years. Although he's closing in on 50, Ewan shows no signs of stopping.
Dr. Sleep
Ewan's most recent sharing of skin was in last years Dr. Sleep. Based on the Stephen King novel, Dr. Sleep follows Danny Torrance in the decades which followed the story told in The Shining. Just released on DVD and on-demand, I had minimal expectations for the film. Although I'm a huge fan of King's written work, the film versions of his novels are often hit and miss.
Dr. Sleep was surprisingly good, with characters beautifully written and portrayed to pay homage to the cast of the 1970 original. Carl Lumbly was especially haunting as Hallorann, beautifully channeling everything you remember about Scatman Crothers performance. Like the original, the move was disturbing than scary, especially the scene of the young boy being cycled by the The True Knot. Ewan's nude scene was brief, but that's ok, he does have a record to maintain.
