Country Boy by Mark Leighton

Giuliano

Well life on the farm is kinda laid back
Ain't much an old country boy like me can't hack
It's early to rise, early in the sack
I thank God I'm a country boy

When John Denver was singing about that country boy heading early to the sack, he wasn't singing about the Giuliano and his ultra tight form.  He wasn't even singing about the physical country that Giuliano and the other overall wearing hotties shown were photographed in.

These country boys were all shot in Portugal by photographer Mark Leighton.  The piece began with my quest for Autumn themed imagery.  I spotted a shot I like of Mike on Mark's Instagram page, and got in touch with Mark about using it.  I thought Mike was frolicking naked in a corn field and would make a great Autumn themed piece. Mark let me know the crop Mike was actually posing in was actually a field of bamboo.

Mike

It had me wondering though what Autumn was like in Portugal and other parts of the globe.  Although I'm aware not everyone gets the same colorful seasonal changes that I do here in the North East, I really know that much about Autumn in other parts of the world, especially in southern Europe and Africa.  I've certainly featured plenty of Autumn themed imagery from the United States and Canada, and even from the UK and Russia, but none Portugal.

Turns out Mark Leighton also loves Autumn, and had just posted a series titled 'Country Boy' on his Patreon page.  Given harvest is such a part of Autumn, and heading to the country in the fall is fairly universal, I thought it still the perfect time to featured some of Mark's Country Boys.

Terry

Some of these country boys might look a little familiar to FH readers.  I've had the pleasure of previously featuring Mark's work with Terry, (HERE:) Henry, (HERE: & HERE:) and Mikael. (HERE:HERE:)  There are more of these country boys, in addition to dozens of other models in well over a thousand other images on Mark's Patreon Page HERE:

'I love Autumn themed shoots but we don't really get an autumn in the usual sense here, there is leaf fall from the Fig trees etc but not really that beautiful brown, golden and red period before it happens. Autumn here is quite different. Usually the first part is what the English would call an "Indian Summer."  Warm days but of course shorter than in summer and cooler evenings. There is quite a sharp drop in temperature once the sun sets, this has caught me out a few times on shoots in late September and October. '

Mikael

'I now make sure a warm blanket and drink is packed in the car. Although some trees lose their leaves, the period between them changing colour from green and then falling is very short, so that autumnal feel is missing here.'

' Usually we get the first rain showers after the summer in either late September or October and the countryside starts to go green again, the trees and plant fresher once more. So all together quite a different experience from that I was used to when I lived in the UK. Of course, I am only talking of the Algarve region, I imagine further north in Portugal it is more similar to norther Europe. '

Henry

Henry wraps himself (below) in one of the blankets brought along.  It was an especially chilly Autumn shoot on the beach.
