Petarious: Favorites, Part II

'Usually, any shot that really centers my ass does really well.'

It should not surprise any regular FH reader, that some of my favorite shots of Peter (Petarious) include his incredible buttocks.  My love of butt shots goes beyond the sexual connection, and more related to architecture. When you look at an landscape, it's the irregular shapes that often stand out.  With an urban or cityscape, your view is usually of a mass of vertical rectangular tall buildings.  When you see an more irregular shaped structure, it's the sinuous lines and curves that really stand out.'

The same goes for images of the male form.  So many photographers stubbornly stick to shooting mostly straight lines.  The most sensual parts of any body, both male and female, are the arcs and curves.  Peter knows this well, and never poses as a tall, stiff skyscraper.  Peter's poses are architecturally designed more as rotundas and domes.  The unique structures Peter creates are one of the reasons his images stand out in a city of rectangles and squares.

One of the reasons I chose some of the images in this piece were also about the locations and themes. Peter incorporated so many visuals I love within his work.  From construction and urban decay, staircases and images with the model or artist posing with art. Long time readers of the site know I also have a passion for images with windows.

Beyond themes of reflection and mirroring, there's also a element of mystery to windows I find fascinating to explore.  Peter talked about story and windows always evoke questions for me.  I always want to know what the model is looking at, and what's on the other side of the glass.  I'm curious about where anyone on the other side is, or has ever looked back in when Peter was posing naked in front of the see through curtain of glass.

What causes you to pause, stop, and really want to spend time with the image?

Typically I look for an image that feels like it could be part of a larger aesthetic story, something verging on editorial, that uses the naked body in both a sensual, but also in a suspenseful way where the viewer is left wanting more and asking, "what happens next!?"

Have you noticed there is anything specific in common with the images of yourself that have the most likes, or are the most popular?

Not exactly, but usually any shot that really centers my ass does really well. I would say it's my best feature, which is pretty funny to me because for many years I really struggled with 4 herniated discs, sciatica, and chronic pain and I had to do a lot of incredibly focused training on all the muscles in the posterior chain for years to make it so strong that I'm now pain free.

The round bubble butt is really just a nice side effect. Whenever I get attention for my backside, it makes me think of the quote often attributed to Michelangelo (referencing painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel) is, "If you knew how much work went into it, you wouldn't call it beautiful"

Are your 'best' o favorite images well planned out, or more spontaneous?
Usually I take a bunch of shots, and I get a gut feeling when I know I've got something good. The stronger this intuitive feeling the better the image usually performs.

Which comes first in a self shot, pose or mood?
Usually I pick the pose first, based on the previous poses I've posted I try to vary them so that there are too many of the same view (front/back/side/standing/reclining etc) in a row on my wall. Then I start making adjustments to the pose to perfect the mood.
