Every March 17th, I try to spotlight an Irish actor, or an Ireland based movie. This year, I went back to an actor I previously featured on the site. I did so, after finding the implied nude of him, covered only in the Irish flag. I was actually first introduced to Irish Emmett J. Scanlan because of another Irish actor, Paul Mescal.
After seeing, and loving Mescal in Normal People, I started looking for more of his work. This was back in 2020, before Mescal made it big in the movies. At the time, he only had a few credits, but one of them, was the Irish mystery min-series The Deceived. I quickly found a way to watch, but instead of being enchanted by Mescal, I was drawn to the hot bearded lead, played by Scanlan.
Scanlan got his start on television, including a few years on the soap Hollyoaks. It was during that time, the actor posed for many pin-ups for British magazines and soap opera publications, Scanlan's Irish flag image, actually comes from a centerfold in British Cosmo. Scanlan continues to work steadily in film and on television. Some of you may have seen him in regular roles in the series MobLand and Peaky Blinders.
