Hallmark Hunks: The Studs

Of course the actors featured here are more than just 'Studs'.  They're all talented actors, whose engaging screen presence, always has me wanting to check out their holiday films.  They're presence in the credits is enough to hold my interest, and I look for their films ever year, even when the script and story may be a little weak.

Although actor Ryan Paevey has plenty of credits in addition to his Hallmark movies, I really only know him from his holiday films.  I'd never seen him on General Hospital, or anywhere else, but ever since discovering him on Hallmark, I've been a fan.  Paevey started with Hallmark in 2016, and has done about 15 films before taking a break in 2023.  I think my favorite was Christmas at the Plaza.

Rosner

I think I first saw studly Marcus Rosner on Hallmark in 2017's Christmas in Evergreen.  I've been in lust since.  This past year, I enjoyed and posted about his turn in Falling Like Snowflakes.   Although Rosner has been shirtless in many films, including the holiday flick, A Christmas Hero, that wasn't a Hallmark film.  I don't think Hallmark has het to celebrate the Rosner chest, yet....

Russell

I think I first saw actor Christopher Russell in 2018's Forever Christmas, (aka Mr.365)  I was pleasantly surprised with the hot shirtless scene.  I'm sure I'd others, but this was the first time I really remembered a Hallmark hunk taking off their shirts in one of the movies.  Russell has done over 20 Hallmark films since 2013, my favorite I believe being the non-Christmas rom com, Yellowstone Romance.

Van Winkle

Many of the actors Hallmark hires for their holiday films are former models.  Not all, have the acting acting of Travis Van Winkle.  Not only has Winkle gotten hotter over the years, he also always delivers and has been working in more and more non-Hallmark movies the last few years.  My most recent sighting of Van Winkle in a Hallmark film was a recent watch of 2021's Tis The Season to be Merry.  Given Hallmark runs  holiday films 24/7 in December, I caught a few from previous years.

8 Days: Matt Cohen in Holiday Date

'After a woman's boyfriend breaks up with her right before the holidays, she agrees to go home with an actor who will pose as her boyfriend.'

Hallmark isn't exactly known for it's diversity, even with white people.  Their plucky, overworked executives, the ones who go home for the holidays, are frequently blonde with the look of a beauty pageant runner's up. The romantic male leads are more diverse in appearance, but very similar in shared heartbreak and blandness. 

The last few years, due in part to criticism, the network has attempted to branch out.  Despite the fact there seems to be only one set of actors in Vancouver to play the friendly older black couple, there do seem to be more racially diverse leads.  This season also marked the networks first same sex couple as leads under the mistletoe.  

Back in 2012, the network dipped it's toe into Hanukkah.  In Hitched for the Holidays, Joey Lawrence played an actor hired by a Jewish woman to pretend to be her boyfriend. In 2018, the network committed to filming two Hanukkah themed movies.  The results were mixed.  The films were still really Christmas movies with a few Hanukkah elements thrown in for good measure.  One of the fist, was Holiday Date featuring former model and soap stud Matt Cohen.

Much liked Hitched for the Holidays, Cohen plays Joel Parker, an actor hired to play the leads boyfriend when she returns home for Christmas.  The fact that Joel is Jewish isn't mentioned until almost mid-way through the movie and is a surprise to both the family, and the audience.  

The elements of Hanukkah weaved in are a bit basic, but that might be a good thing given I'm guessing most of the films viewers are not well versed on the traditions and history of the Jewish holiday.  Unlike Christmas, which you can't escape if you tried, information about Hanukkah everywhere you turn in December and unless your Jewish, you have to look to learn.  

Not being Jewish, I remember knowing almost nothing about Hanukkah until I researched Jewish holidays for JR High School project.  I remember being surprised with how little most people knew about the holiday and how at the time, school's and public areas like stores and commercial spaces did little or nothing to note the holiday.

General Hospital 

I watched some of Holiday Date last year, but DVR'd it to watch fully when it recently aired again.  Matt Cohen makes a engaging lead and it was nice to see Bruce Boxleitner as the female leads father. I don't watch General Hospital, and never saw Matt on the soap, but from the caps below, it appears they frequently got him out of his clothes.

12 Days: Ryan Paevey in Christmas at the Plaza

'With Christmas approaching in New York City, Jessica, an archival historian enmeshed in a declining romantic relationship, is hired to create an exhibition honoring the history of Christmas at The Plaza Hotel. There, she meets Nick, a handsome decorator who’s been commissioned to deck out the iconic landmark.'

I know, I featured actor Ryan Paevey in a 12 Days post before, (HERE:) but... he's only one of a handful of Hallmark Hunks, that actually has me sit down and pay attention when he's on the  screen.  Paevey is so naturally sexy, regardless of what he's doing, or wearing.  Although fully dressed (sigh) for the entire film, whether in his work clothes, or his cheesy Christmas sweater, Paevey's sex appeal remains intense.

I also sort of liked the story in this flick, especially the elements featuring the history of Christmas at the Plaza hotel.  Since I featured Paevey before, I thought this was a good opportunity for a few gratuitous shirtless shots from his time on General Hospital.  I also thought it was a great time to choose my FaVorite Paevey pics.  It was a difficult task, but you can see my choices on PAGE 2 HERE:

Favorites; Ryan Paevey

Except for his roles in Hallmark holiday films, I've actually never seen Paevey on Screen.  I don't watch General Hospital, nor have I seen any of his other television appearances.  Like so many of the hot and talented men that I feature, Ryan grabbed my attention through his images.

Pavey didn't set out to be an actor, growing up, he worked along side his father in the construction business.  His road to acting began after being scouted by a modeling agent.  In addition to his fashion and fitness work, Paevey's also worked in several music videos working with Cher, Katy Perry, and Christina Aguilera.
