Stephen Geoffreys: A Fright Night at The Hunk Hotel

'And to what do I owe this dubious pleasure?'
Evil Ed

Actor Stephen Geoffreys had an awkward audition for the Anthony Michael Hall's role in 1985's Weird Science.  Although he didn't get the role, he made an indelible impression on Jackie Burch, who suggested him for Fright Night. Although he was not a horror-movie fan, Geoffreys loved the script, so he called his agent and emphatically declared that he would love to audition for Charley Brewster.

Geoffrey's was disappointed and confused as to why they thought he'd make a good Evil Ed.  It ended up however, working out well. In many ways, Evil Ed was a break-out character from 1985's Fright Night and Ed's portrayer, actor Stephen Geoffreys, seemed to enjoy his experience on the film.  He wasn't however, as impressed with the script for the sequel, Fright Night 2.  Although legally, Geoffreys was obligated to reprise his role, he shared in an interview that he hired a lawyer to get him out of the film, and out of his contract..

Geoffreys maintains he has no regrets about not doing the follow-up film.  He'd had success in films with roles in Heaven Help Us and Fraternity Vacation before being cast in Fright Night.  After filming finished on the 1985 film, he went on to appear with Sean Penn and Christopher Walken in the film  At Close Range and on television on shows including; Amazing Stories and The Twilight Zone.

Despite his success in films, and a Tony Award nomination for his role in the 1984 Broadway Production of The Human Comedy, but the time the 1990's rolled around, Geoffreys was struggling to find roles. In a what some saw as a startling and unexpected career move, Geoffreys turned to acting in numerous gay porn films, both softcore and hardcore productions.

Under the pseudonyms of Sam Ritter and Stephan Bordeaux. Geffrey's appeared in films and videos including; Hole in the Wall, Sex on the Beach, The Cock Pit, Latin Crotch Rockets, Leather Virgin and Transsexual Prostitutes 2.  Some FH readers may remember the actor from Campfire Video's Hunk Hotel back in 1996.  The video was re-released, and as a way of increasing sales, used the actor's real name this time.

After a lengthy absence from mainstream films, Geoffreys made a comeback in 2007 with a co-starring role in the indie fright feature Sick Girl. Geoffreys continued his run of Horror films with appearances in Do Not Disturb, (2010) Emerging Past, (2011) and The Day of the Living Dead in 2014.
