Just Toying, (and Boying) Around: Ethan by Frisky Frolic

'We were toying around with festive holiday attire.'

They say that some of our best, and most memorable moments are unplanned, random and spontaneous.  That's especially true when it comes to Christmas morning.  As kids, we couldn't really plan our Christmas mornings.  Sure, our parents planned, the gifts, the days activities, but it was really what Santa left under the tree that determined the day.

At our house, I knew my siblings and I would get up around 5 or 6am.  We were allowed to open our stockings, but that was it until our parents got up a few hours later.   Then, we had a quick breakfast and opened our gifts.  That's when the unplanned fun began.  I'll never forget unwrapping toys, that smell of fresh plastic I'll forever associate with Christmas morning.  I loved that smell, only years later understanding how unhealthy those chemicals actually were...

The next few hours were spontaneous bursts of fun, going from one toy and activity to another.  One Christmas morning, it was all about playing with a racing set.  The following year it was action figures, and a war with my younger brother.  As I got older, it was about building my new model, working on a doodle art, or playing the newest Parker Brothers board game.  Later, it became more about video games, and starting the new book I was gifted.

No matter the year, ,my age, or where I was, it was those brightly wrapped packages that determined how I'd be spending the morning.  It's that child-like feeling of fun and spontaneity that I always feel and enjoy from the work of JayBee from Frisky Frolic.  JayBee is one of my favorite artists to feature, and one of the most proficient photographers blending the erotic with innocence for imaginative and sexy fun.

I always enjoy featuring JayBee's work, but for some reason, I most associate his visuals with the holidays.  In part, because it was a holiday that first led me to his work.  We had planned on a new Christmas themed series for this year, but complications with scheduling got in the way.  Thanks to JayBee's extensive archive however, there were still several holiday shoots we had not yet featured.

Although as an artist, JayBee certainly planned ahead for his shoot with Ethan.  He planned the time, the location, and made sure he had plenty of festive fashions and decorations on hand.  His direction to Ethan though, was just to have fun.  Grab the items he wanted to wear, and un-wear, and just enjoy himself and play with whatever items grab is attention.

Just like a child on Christmas morning, JayBee and Ethan knew they'd have fun, and that they'd end up with great images.  How they got there however, was all about random pieces of clothing, big red bows, spontaneity, and most of all, imagination.  Tapping into those feelings of excitement, of waking up on Christmas morning.  You may no have know exactly what you'd be doing, but you knew it was going to be so much fun.
