A Return To Eden: Anthony by Mount Photography

In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.
Proverbs 23:32

If you're a regular FH reader, you know I love a theme. One of my favorites, was the recent Garden of Eden theme that I explored earlier this month. (HERE:)  When it comes to holidays and themes on the site, I tend to overboard, and that certainly happened when I dived into the world of Eden, temptation and Adam and Eve.

I had close to five pages worth of posts, which I knew I had to cut down.  Whenever my theme goes over multiple pages, I know some of artists and images get lost.  For that reason, I cut down on the images featured, and saved some favorites for a follow-up!

Some of you may remember these shots of Anthony by Mount Photography from a piece I did back in 2013. (HERE:)  This series wasn't just one of my favorite shoots from photography Mark Montovio, it was one of my favorite pieces to spotlight and feature.  I got in touch with Mark, and he graciously sent on larger versions of the shots previously featured, plus a few extras.

Check out more of the tempting Anthony, as well as many other hot nude men showing off their snakes, in a sensual return to Eden on FH HERE:

Snake Handler: Anthony by Mount Photography

'They will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.'
Mark 16:18

It was back in 2009 when I first discovered and featured the work of photographer Mark Montovio from Mount Photography.  Since then, I've been fortunate to have featured Mark's work over 20 times.  You can check all of the previous pieces on FH HERE:.  I love how Mark views and captures and the male form.  There's a unique elegance and flow in Mark's work that always stands out for me.

I first featured images from this series back in 2013. (HERE:) This was one of my favorite shoots of Mark's to feature, and is also one of Mark's favorites as well. You can certainly see and feel that flow in this series with Anthony, and with Mowgli, the beautiful Albino Burmese Python he's posing with.  Anthony had little experience with snakes, especially one slithering over and around his naked body. Despite that, both human and reptile look really natural posing together.

Although Anthony did enjoy his posing partner, given their reputation, he did have some questions. Python's have sharp rearward-pointing teeth which they use seize prey.  They then coil their body around what they've captured, squeezing a little tighter with each exhale until their prey suffocates.  Mark assured Anthony although he may get a little squeeze, all of Anthony's anatomy was safe from harm.

'Anthony was fascinated when the python stuck out its tongue - you can see in some of the pics I think - and I had to assure him that the snake was just checking him out and not getting ready for a snack. Of course the Python got a chance to check out every bit of Anthony as snakes love to do!'

Quaternate: Mount Photography

Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?  In the case of FH, the answers would be the model or the photographer.  All of the pieces I work on  start with an image, but the perspective in which I view that image, can come from the model in front of the camera, or the artist behind it.  In the case of photographer Mark Montovio, (Mount Photography) the initial focus was on model.

It was back in 2009 that I was putting together a piece on model Antonio Garcia. (HERE:) Many of the shots of Antonio were taken along the beaches of one of Portugals incredible beaches.  If you check out FH regularly, you know that Mark often traveled to Portugal to shoot.  This piece, began the many creative collaborations with Mark Montovio I've enjoyed working on over the last twelve years.

In addition to enjoying the many beautiful locations in Portugal, Gibraltar and Spain, I've also loved the models that Mark work's with.  I love the diversity of the men Mark's works with and some of them, (Cristian, Antonin) we've watched grow with multiple shoots over multiple years.  Mark's dance background has led to a focus on movement and pose, something he does equally well in both spectacular location shoots, or in more limited spaces and in studio.

Stationary Choreography: Fernando by Mount Photography

'Fernando literally becomes self absorbed when he moves and forgets his surroundings making the interaction very special.'

I've written often about the elegant nexus between dance, and the photographing of the male form.  I often comment about the sharp connection that dancers have with their bodies, and how it manifests itself in both movement and pose.  I don't comment as much, about the connections photographers also often have with their bodies, and how it plays out in not only what they create, but what they see and what they feel during a shoot.

Photographers are in many ways choreographers,  creating stationary moments of movement within their work.  If you look at just one of these images of Fernando, it appears much like a moment of stillness.  If you're able however, to visually absorb the entire series, it's clearly a dance, and the culmination of the capturing a beautiful series of movements.

Mark Montovio

I always knew Mount Photography's Mark Montovio had a background and in photography as well as sculpture and dance. I didn't know however, about his experience as a dancer.  Whenever I've featured his work, whether with one model, or more, Mark always captures more than just a body posing, but more an expression of emotion through movement.  The weaving together of dance and sculpture is illustrated not only in pose and movement, but also the fashion and headpieces that Mark often incorporates within his work.

When putting together this piece on his work with Fernando, Mark not only sent on his comments about Fernando and the shoot, but also attached a few images from his days as a dancer. I of course had to ask a few questions, and if it was ok to a few in the piece.   Mark has created many sculptures that he then both danced with, or used as stage sets within dances that were inspired by the sculpture. At other times, it was the dance that inspired a sculpture.

'I was always very inspired by tribal cultures because they had a very unified sense of what Europeans saw as very distinct disciplines and body art was a mayor fascination. The arts, ritual, the body, and spirituality, became one, and 30 years on that forms the backbone of my life and my work.'

Given his dance background, dancers are Mark's favorite subjects, so when he saw Fernando's images on Instagram, he asked if he wanted to shoot.  Fernando sent back an immediate yes. Although originally from Venezuela, Fernando, an accomplished dancer, now lives and works in Spain

'I particularly enjoyed the outdoor morning shoots at the beach and most of the work was over in about an hour. He is an absolute pleasure to work with, incredibly talented and stunningly beautiful when he gets into role. He literally becomes self absorbed when he moves and forgets his surroundings making the interaction very special. '

A Provocative Preview: Jean Carlos by Mount Photography

The best laid plans...   Model Jean Carlos Garcia's modeling career is taking off, and one of his goals was to do a shoot along of the sandy shores of one Spain's incredible beaches.  After connecting on Facebook, and checking out Mark Montovio's incredible portfolio, Jean Carlos knew he'd found the perfect photographer to capture his dream shoot on the beach.

Jean Carlos is from Ecuador although he has been living in Barcelona for the last 11 years  He has taken part in a number of runway shows in Spain and in Milan during fashion week, also taken part in the the Guinness world book of records for the biggest runway show in the world which took place in Madrid. After spending so much time inside, walking the runways, it's understandable why the hot young model would want to strip off all that fashion and shoot outside on the beach.

'I was really interested in a session at the beach, but couldn’t shoot in CĆ”diz, it wan't practical.  We ended up setting a date for a weekend in Marbella bu unfortunately, it rained heavily the three days before and we weren't able to shoot outside. We did a very quick session indoors which I enjoyed nonetheless. It is very easy working with Mark, he is very laid back and always making positive comment to help you feel very relaxed. I look forward to meeting up again because I really would like to do that beach shoot, something Mark does so well!'

'Jean Carlo's career started to pick up early in the year but Covid-19 had its say. I am very much looking forward to working with him again as he has an electrifying energy and he is an amazing young man '

Essential Service: Alejo by Mount Photography

'I've tried to shoot with Alejo again but Covid is shit!'

Covid is shit... no truer words.  We've all heard, thought or said this ourselves countless times over the last last.  Covid had impacted almost every aspect of how we live our lives.  Although the arts may not be considered by some to be an essential service, it's the arts that so many of us, especially when the pandemic first began, that we turned to.

I know more than ever, I've depended on good movies, especially classic films that I've collected and enjoy watching a second or third time.  I dove into my favorite sit-coms, listened to my favorite songs and sought out familiar websites that bring me comfort.  Discussion boards with community feels, Leslie Jordan's videos on Instagram and stimulating visuals that for moment, have the powerful ability to distract.

I understand that in the scheme of things images of the male form may not seem that important in fighting a disease, but for so many people, movies, television shows and art, have done more healing than any doctor or therapeutic could possible prescribe or administer.  Mark word's echo what I've heard from so many artists and models, Covid is shit.  The pandemic not only put a halt to shoots, it also shut off the creative outlet so many use to deal with the day to day grind of life.

The good news, is many photographers and models have begun to shoot again.  Masks, social distancing, and trying to shoot primarily outside is now the norm.  Although Mark's plans for a second shoot with the exquisite Alejo were put on hold, I'm hoping maybe they'll still be able to create together again in the future.

'I love tattoos and the minute I saw Alejo I asked if he'd model.  He had never done a photoshoot – but agreed on the spot and I was shooting him an hour later as I was only in Spain for a few hours that day'

I too love Alejo's tattoo's, and spent some time enlarging the images to get a closer work at the artwork and canvas on which it's located.  Alejo is Colombian and I noticed his tattoo's are all organically based, birds, fish, insects and animals. Alejo's body is like an artistic expression of his native Latin American culture, including the colors of the Colombian flag.

As eye-catching as Alejo's body art is, it's his actual eyes, which most forcefully, commanded my attention.  Alejjo's beautiful brown eyes and hypnotic gaze connects directly with both Mark and his camera, and those of us enjoying the visuals captured.   If Mark and Alejo manage to schedule a second shoot, I'll be sure to ask Mark about sharing them with you all, and a follow-up on the site.
