Canadian Bacon

Canadian, (back) bacon is a lean cut of meat that includes the loin from the back. It may also include a portion of the belly in the same cut. It is usually much leaner than side bacon and is made ready to eat.

Every Canada Day I try to choose a Canadian film or actor to spotlight.  This year, I'm returning back to an actor I've featured several times before on the site.  Yes, actor Shawn Roberts is a beautiful slice of Canadian bacon, especially his back bacon, which we've been fortunate to have seen on screen several times.  Shawn is also one of the hardest working actors in the business, one's who has been working steadily in all genres of the industry for almost three decades.

'I was 12 years old, so auditioning for a TV show was something I didn't even think really happened. The next thing you know, I ended up booking the gig and I did four seasons on 'Emily of New Moon.' I got to learn on the job and kept going from there.'

Roberts began in the business in the early 90's when he was just 10 years old.  His first roles were on Canadian television shows including appearances on;  Goosebumps, Sirens, La Femme Nikita and Earth: Final Conflict.  It wasn't long before the Stratford Ontario born actor was appearing on the big screen with small roles in X-Men,  (2000) and Get Over It. (2001)

Throughout his late teens and his twenties, Roberts continued to weave seamlessly between roles on television and on films.  Some of his most memorable turns included roles in At Home at the End of the World,  Cheaper by the Dozen II, and National Lampoons, Going The Distance.  Shawn was just 19 when he appeared naked, tied to the bed and.. humm, invaded, in 2004's Going The Distance.

During the early 2000's, Roberts also appeared on several episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation, and the Chad Allen gay themed film A Shock To The System.   Robert's has easily moved between film and television and also between genres.  He's appeared on screen in LBGTQ roles, and then easily hopped onto Hallmark as the romantic lead.

Throughout the 2000's and 2010's, Roberts continued to move between television appearances, (Supernatural, Flashpoint, Being Erica) to roles in mainstream films including; Jumper, I Love You Beth Cooper, and as Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil franchise.

Given his buff bod, Roberts is often required to be shirtless, and on a few occasions, pantless as well....  Check out Roberts on-screen nude resume in my Actors & SKIN series featuring caps and clips HERE: & HERE:

Shawn Roberts: Actors & SKIN

With his hot, buffed body, actor Shawn Roberts is required to take his shirt off for many of the roles and movies he's in.   Sadly, the times his pants come off have been far less.  But... given how beautifully beefy his butt is, it's always a reason to celebrate.  Roberts didn't have a nude scene in the 2006 gay dram A Shock to the System.  His chest however, was in the foreground when actor Joshua Dave Tynchuh, credited simply as Naked Jock 1, came out of the shower.

A Shock to the System (2006)

A gay detective tries to solve the murder of a college student.

Shock to the System caps via DC's Men of the Moment

A Frosty Affair (2015)

A rom-com about the adventures of a small town teacher, Kate Carter, going back to the city for her wedding. After a blizzard strikes, she is forced to travel with a stranger named Redford who leaves her questioning her future plans.

I don't know if it's the long hair, the snow, or the situation, but I find Shawn's frozen strip in A Frosty Affair one of his hottest scenes.   His character Redford seems to enjoy getting naked, even in the freezing cold, especially if it bothers and embarrasses the uptight Kate.

Dark Skies (2009)

A reclusive scientific prodigy and three college friends find themselves in the middle of a toxic storm, when an unscrupulous business deal rains terror down on an entire county.

Given Robert's character Kevin is living like a hermit in the woods, his sexuality wasn't really that much of an issue.  That was until three strangers show up when he's completely naked.  We soon learn that one of them, Andrew (PJ Prinsloo) is gay, and he and Kevin share a kiss before saving the day.  It was a nice surprise to see a gay romance rather quietly weaved into this action thriller.

Canadian Bacon

When have you ever heard anyone say, "Honey, lets stay in and order Canadian food?
Canadian Bacon, 1995

No, there may not be many restaurants specializing in Canadian cuisine, but Canada does have a few signature dishes.  Most people have heard of Poutine, but Canada is also famous for it's smoked meat, Beavertails, Tourtière, Lobster rolls, donairs and anything and everything maple.   It's also known world wide for it's bacon, specifically Canadian back bacon, made from Pork Loin, a leaner cut of meat.  Some people love it, others do not, but there's nothing better than a round slab on a breakfast sandwich!

Martin Short

Since this is FH, and we're celebrating Canada Day, there's another slice of Canadian meat that's known world wide.  Of course, I'm talking about the meat on Canadian men, specially male actors.  When Canadian actors are wrote about, they often focus on the comedians.  The many actors of comedy who got their start on Canadian television, and then made their way to the States, or SNL, produced by Lorne Michaels, another Canadian.

SCTV

Canadians love their comedy, the SCTV alumni;  John Candy, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy and Martin Short.  Then there's the Kids in the Hall, some of whom, (Dave Foley, Mark McKinney) also made a name for themselves on American sit-coms.  There's also Jim Carrey, Seth Rogan, Will Arnett, Tom Green, Phil Hartman, Matthew Perry, Mike Myers, Norm MacDonald, Howie Mandel, Tommy Chong, Leslie Nielson and original SNL cast member Dan Aykroyd.

Moranis, Levy with Robin Williams (Club Paradise)

Canadians can be serious as well, with acclaimed actors like Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland, Michael Ironside, Keanu Reeves, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Victor Garber and Christopher Plummer also hailing from the Great White North.  Although a certain orange buffoon has tried to put a wedge between them, Canada and the United States have been allies and friendly neighbours going back to the early 1800's.

Eugene Levy

It makes sense given the two countries have longest international border stretching approximately 8,893 kilometers (5,526 miles) that Canadian talent would head south for work, and international fame.  Many American actors also head north to film in Canada, with some of the world's biggest movies filmed there.  Some of the many films that were shot partially, or entirely in Canada include;  The X-Men movies, The Twilight Saga, Deadpool, Good Will Hunting, The Revenant, American Psycho, Mean Girls, Chicago, Brokeback Mountain and Titanic.

Gosling

I've featured hundreds of thespian Canucks over the years, especially in my 12 Days series.  The majority of Hallmark films are filmed in Canada, meaning many of the leading men from the romance series are Canadian.  I've done Actors & Skin features on many, including Andrew Walker (HERE:) and Shawn Roberts. (HERE:) Below are a few other hot Canadians I've featured over the years.  Some, have shown their back bacon, a few, shared their Canadian sausages as well.

Reeves

Shatner

Carrey

Taylor Kitsch, (above and below) gave us a taste of his Canadian back bacon on both screen, and in modeling wok.

Reynolds

Fox

I love me some Paul Gross, especially in the 1993 drama Aspen Extreme.  If you watched the DVD, you saw a bit of Paul's posterior, but if you were lucky enough to catch it on VHS, you saw more.  Thanks to xyzpdq (SOMS) for the cap below.

Actors & SKIN: Shawn Roberts in Going The Distance

'The Came, they saw, they came.'

'In order to prevent a recent high school graduate from getting engaged, two friends intervene by taking him on a cross-country road trip.'

National Lampoon's 2004's Going the Distance, featured Roberts first, and most boundary pushing nude scenes.  Surfers Tyler, (Roberts) and Dime decide to take their buddy Nick on a road trip of his life.  With only three days to make it to Toronto, and the MuchMusic Video awards, they head on their way. Nick was played by actor Christopher Jacot who like Roberts, appeared on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Two sexy hitchhikers, Sasha and Jill, complicate matters and a series of accidents, orchestrated by a malevolent stranger, sabotage the trip turning Nick's future plans upside down.  One night, when out at a local bar, Tyler meets to female strangers who have plans on how they'd like to pleasure Tyler.  This includes tying him to a bed and introducing him to anal penetration with a large dildo.  Although initially shocked, Tyler seems to eventually ease into the new experience, and the new feeling.

Tyler:
Whatever you're doing back there, just... be careful because I bruise easy.

Karma:
What do you think, Claire? Should we use the baby carrot or the Excalibur?

Tyler:
Oh, baby carrot. Baby carrot.

The scene is mixed in with other scenes within the film, but I included the main parts in the clip above.  Sadly, I could not for the live of me get the sound to work, but you'll get the idea.  Although you don't see much, it's a very hot scene.
