ONE by David Arnot

It was close to two years ago while researching a feature on Model Joshua Delos that I first discovered the work of photographer David Arnot. Since then, some of my favorite shots of some of my favorite models (Craig Malozzi, Mason O'Sullivan, John Huetter, Kyle Pinsonneault & Terrel Fraser to name a few) have come from the click of David Arnot's camera. One of my favorite shoots to have featured on FH was David's work with Michael Macneal (check it out HERE:). David's work exemplifies the very definition of the word clear. The focus is the model, making them look their best with what I can only describe as hot restraint. Arnot's uses his camera to skillfully hit that exhilarating anticipatory one split second just before.

This split second is beautifully documented in Arnot's first book One. I cannot think of any other model or any other shot that best sums this up that Nick Ayler who graces the cover of One. You can check out more and preview One at David's new site HERE: One is due to be released next month but you can pre-order on Amazon HERE:

Michael Macneal by David Arnot

When I first began FH I was not aware of the work of David Arnot. I now check out his work regularly. David has taken some of my favorite shots of many of the incredible models I have featured on the blog. Joshua Delos, Nick Ayler, Kyle Pinsonneault, Ray Santiesteban and Craig Malozzi all have been fortunate to be in front of David lens. Through his outstanding work, David Arnot has quickly become one of the top photographers of fine art.

David's work with Michael Macneal is not only my favorite of Michael's work, it is also my favorite of Davids. David does not usually use much in the way of set for his shoots. In most cases David uses only a white background and a touch of fashion. His focus stays clearly on the subject in front of him to create simple, yet stunning images. David clearly knew exactly how to shoot Michael and their work together is sexually charged while at the same time fun with a lightness and in many shots it appears Michael is about to break out in a giant grin at any moment.

Ten: POTD 2010

Although Pic of the Day's with male butts were still a staple, 2010 was the year FH as we now know officially came together. I always envisioned the site as an on-line magazine and my five post a day layout was cemented by the end of 2010. Staring with the magazine's cover, (POTD) followed by Birthdays, 2 supporting stories and the main artist, model or performers profile.

There have been times since 2010 that I have thought of altering the format, dropping the birthdays, posting fewer stores or posting more or less often, ultimately I find the format suits my style and allows me to fit in all of the things I want to cover each day. I continue to have a love/hate relationship with the Birthday feature. Some days it is a chore, other days, it has become my favorite part of working on the blog, especially if I'm able to find a great new shot of the Birthday boy.

Photographer and model profiles became a daily staple with the POTD and main story tying together for pretty much every day's posts. Photographers who first appeared or were covered in 2010 included Wagner LA, Xtavier_Paris, David Arnot, Ev Dylan, Zedneram, Michael Stokes, Flyfoto, John M Clum, Haringman+, Bryan Motely, Leigh Carter and y first post featuring msbimages. Several photographers became regular contributors including Michael Puff, Bill McClaren, LightWeaver and Scott Barnes.

2010 also marked the debut o FH of Barnsbury Studio. This was noteworthy as the artist behind Barnsbury is photographer Angus Malcolm who has gone to shoot the Warwick Rowers calendars the last 6 six years. I featured Angus' work with other models, I especially loved Boys at the Lumina. In November of 2010, featured his first shoot for Warwick.

Models and performers were also favorites in 2010 and I tried when possible, to work directly with the model or actor on their stories. Some of the men making their FH debuts in 2010 were Ryan Murray, Nick Ayler, Steve Raider, Brad Ouellette and Brett Gleason. Thanks to Chris Tell, we also saw the first appearances of FH favorites Claudiu and Samuel Boux.

The Face: Terrel Fraser

It is of course a given that being fit, working out and keeping your body in top form is essential in the modeling world. One factor that models have less control over yet is most important is their face. Not just how it looks but what it expresses. 25 year old Terrel Fraser describes himself as a 'fresh new face in the industry' with a face uniquely beautiful and expressive with features brought together from his Italian German and African American heritage. Terrel's gorgeous brown eyes express a sexiness and humanity which bring something special to each of his images.

New to the industry, I was impressed with the quality of work Terrel has already put together for his portfolio. Terrel has worked with some of my favorite photographers and many of whom I have profiled on FH. Here is a look at some of my favorite shots from Terrel's port.

First three shots by Guillermo Real.

'Guillermo is La based now and a fairly new photog, talented he's studied it for many years. We had a great beach shoot where he did it all, styling, lighting as well as taking the shots directed. Very talented!'

'JS2D Design, Jake Sorrentno , great guy, close friend and has been in the biz for over 20 years as a designer as well as photog. Schooled me on basically everything I know about posing, modeling and everything about the industry.'

Portrait Below by TARRICE LOVE:

'Great photog and very very underrated! He doesn't get the notoriety he deserves yet, but make no mistake he is talented! Also does it all; style, shoots, everything to get a great image and funny as hell lol'

Four beautiful shots below by Tony Veloz.

'Tony Veloz is super talented DC based photog and draws from his extensive experience in shooting woman and somehow translates it and applies it to men yet still keeps it masculine. Love his work and also looking forward to working more with him'

Below: What I think has become Terrel's signature shot, the great image below by one of my favorite photographers, David Arnot.

'David Arnot is an all around pro it was a great shoot! I am looking forward to working with him again.'

A Baker's Dozen: Nick Ayler

Nick by Hans Fahrmeyer

In the early days of the site, one of my favorite models to feature was the ultra talented and hot Nick Ayler.  The first images I saw of Nick were from photographer Hans Fahrmeyer, and Hans graciously shared many of their collaborations with the site.  Nick's images are always stand outs, and in addition to Hans, I loved seeing the results of many other favorite photographers, some of which I've featured below.

When I had the chance to interview Nick a few years into the site, In addition to loving his work in front of the camera, I was impressed at his dedication and commitment to everything he did.  This was especially true for all that was required on the business side. For Nick, modeling was a great way to get his name out there, but his ultimate goal was the entertainment business.

Nick by David Arnot

Nick did a lot of his own promotion, and for many years worked without an agency or management, doing the bulk of the leg work, and making many contacts himself. A passion for music, dance and acting led to roles on film, on television (Hollywood Boys) and commercials.  Many of you may remember seeing Nick in Leslie Jordan's Superbowl add for Doritos. (HERE:)

Nick by Richard Gerst

Starting back in 2009 with his work with Hans, I featured Nick often over the years, highlighting his magazine and book covers and whenever he had new projects and shoots.  Check out Nick Ayler on FH by clicking the links below.
