Archives: Blast From The Past

Peter Barton

When I started FH, one of my goals was to only featured some of today's hottest and most talented hunks, but also feature men who impacted my, and others in the past.  So many sites are all about the men of the moment, the current and hottest bodies and moments.  As we all know however, it's hard to stay front burner for too long, at least not without burning out.

Blast From The Past began as my way of spotlighting some of the models, actors and singers who I grew u with.  It soon became so much more.   Although I had connections with many of the men that I featured, I also included actors who I discovered later in life.  There are many actors, who I either didn't like or didn't notice that I looked at differently when I got older.

When I was a kid, I remember thinking that Tom Selleck was sort of 'gross'.  He seemed old, and I hated his moustache, and how hairy he was.  Then... when I hit my thirties, I started looking back on all those shirtless shots of Selleck with a different perspective...   There are also several classic stars from the 40's, 50's and 60's that I never heard of when I was a kid.  Thanks To TCM, I quickly began crushing over actors, many of whom are in their 80's, 90's or no longer with us at all.

This list includes most of those actors, performers, singers and models that I've blasted back to the past with.  I say most, as there are many former heart throbs who showed up in my birthdays or movie section that I have yet to include.  I hope to add them in once I have time to fully research the blog, but this list is a pretty good beginning.   Looking back at some of the posts, especially those from the site's early days, I realize many need an update.  Some were done before I had the ability to cap and create images on my own, and before learning how enlarge an image.  Hoping to update a few of my favorites soon.

Retro Moments:

MacGyver
First Episode, 36 years ago
September 29, 1985

I was just a kid when the original MacGyver was on the air, and usually was being ushered to bed when it was coming on.  That didn't mean I didn't take notice, especially when I got a bit older and began seeing photos of Richard Dean Anderson in magazines.   I also enjoyed checking Richard out in his speedo on YouTube from some old clips of Battle of the Network Stars.

Classic Soap Hunks: Peter Reckell

It always interests me to look at how 'attraction' changes over time. The time might be age, or it might be experiences or life changes. There are so many actors and models I felt one way about ten years ago, and now see them from a very different view. Actor Peter Reckell is one of those actors.

I have watched Days of our Lives off and on over the years, and certainly noticed Reckell in TV and celebrity magazines, but he never really grabbed my attention. It's not that I didn't think he was attractive, but he was quite a bit older than I was and the beard and the long hair didn't do anything for me at the time.

Recently however, it was just those things, the beard and the long hair that had me looking Mr. Reckell through different eyes.  I'm not sure what my problem was, clearly many saw Reckell's sex appeal and he was part of one daytime's hottest couples.

I'm convinced there are some men, really great looking men, that appeal more to women than they do to gay men. Maybe Reckell is one of those guys. I know growing up there were actors actors my female friends seemed to love, that I just didn't get. I think every generation has a Tom Selleck, a Richard Dean Anderson, or a Robert Pattinson that appeal more to women than other men. Recklell was in that category to me until seeing some old shots of Reckell recently on-line.

Back to Billy

Every time I catch a piece of 1988's Mystic Pizza on TV, I end up doing a post. I love the 80's romantic comedy and all of it's male co-stars. My last viewing was a few years ago which led to a 2013 post about actor Adam Storke. (HERE:) Storke, along with Vincent D'Onofrio and William R. Moses played the romantic interests of leads Annabeth Gish, Lili Taylor and Julia Roberts.

This past viewing, my old crush on William (Billy) R. Moses was reignited. I have been watching William on TV since I was a kid on shows like Falcon Crest and Melrose Place through Perry Mason and his speedo wearing days on Battle of the Network Stars. William continues to be a busy actor with recent appearances on Homeland, Mad Men, Grey's Anatomy and a small role in last seasons American Horror Story.

I have feature William previous in my Blast From The Past section, (HERE:) and tried to find some new images and new material for this piece. I especially enjoyed looking through the old Battle 'speedo parades', check out the video below.

His Mind is the Ultimate Weapon

I've been meaning to post about actor Lucas Till for awhile now. I have saved a few images, but regretfully, have yet to see any of his movies. I have DVR'd Wolves, but have not gotten to it, yet... I was still interested in Till though due to his beautiful face, sexy jaw and a few Youtube videos that show off his fun and sexy personality.

I did though, watch MacGyver this afternoon, and it was pretty fast paced and enjoyable. I only saw a handful of episodes of the original, but loved me some Richard Dean Anderson. (when's the cameo?) Till is an engaging actor, and especially fun to watch in motion. MacGyver's mind might be his ultimate weapon, but with, it's Till's face and hair fascinate Till can sport so many different looks and seems to change just a little bit in almost every scene he's in. Not sure I'm going to be sitting at home on Friday's to watch, but I will be setting the DVR.

Delayed Gratification

Ok Ok, I finally understand it, Michael Weatherly is HOT!  It is not that I didn't see an appeal, I always thought he was cute and likable, but I also always lumped Weatherly into a category.  You know that category, Richard Dean Anderson is there and Weatherly's co-star Mark Harmon,  It is a category of actors, hugely popular, especially with female viewers, but not seen as particularly sexual by men.

Maybe it's because they're nice, I hope not, all are good looking, but there is something about them that although I liked, I never really was drawn to.  That was, in Weatherly's case, until Easter weekend...

First Wives Club (2004)

What happened on Easter, well it was the first time I have ever watched an episode of NCIS from start to finish.  I did not intend to, the show bores me silly, but I was visiting my parents, a home where NCIS and Matlock reruns are on a constant loop, and even though I didn't intend to, a 2004 episode of NCIS, The First Wives Club was on, and the volume was on high.

I got Weatherly's appeal, and I got it hard....  As I sat watching, I was fully at attention with how Weatherly seemed to literally light up every scene he was in.  With a twinkle in his eyes, and an incredibly sexy grin, he was flirtation in his exchanges, with almost every other character, both women and men.

Weatherly's charm, and sex appeal, were on full display for the entire episode.  The actor is leaving NCIS at the end of this season, and although I may never watch another episode, glad I finally felt what all the fuss was about.  Maybe there's hope I might one day get the appeal of Tom Sellek.... nah
