Blast From The Past: Bruce Penhall

Although I have certainly heard of the classic television show CHiPS, I don't think that I never seen an episode. I have certainly have never seen an episode with Bruce Penhall, who stepped in during the show's last season after co-star Larry Wilcox left the show. I came upon an image of Penhall when putting together a piece Beat, last summer, and knew he needed a Blast From The Past post of his own.

Penhall may have seemed a perfect replacement given he embodies the California surfer look with his blonde hair and beach body. Penhall is indeed a surfer and former motorcycle racer and had the athleticism required for the role. After the series ended, so pretty much did Penhall's acting career. A few guest spots and straight to video movies followed, but by the late 90's, Penhall's time on screen was pretty much over with his last appearance being in the 1999 CHiPS reunion movie.

Researching images of Penhall proved a pleasant experience. Penhall was rarely shot in a shirt, usually in short, and often on the beach with a surfboard in his hand. Although his time in prime-time was brief, it was memorable enough to have made him a huge hit in teen magazines at the time.

Hot Suits:

Earlier this year, I featured actor Bruce Penhall (CHiPS) , in his bulging baby blue speedos. (HERE:) The shots were from his appearance in the hot suits issues from US Magazine in the 1980's. I'd previously posted images and outtakes of other celebrities from the swimsuit issues and once again... thought I'd reached the end when posted the shots of Bruce.

Then... I found a couple more.  This series, features Cagney & Lacey stud Martin Kove, who appeared in the January 1985 swimsuit issue of US.  No stranger to showing a little skin, I've previously featured Martin before on the site, as an actor, (HERE:) and his on-screen nude scenes, including a full frontal, on FH HERE:

Although I think I'm near the end of the US hot suits hotties, I have one or two that I still need to do a little more research on.  In the meantime, enjoy Martin, and his 1980's  hot suit shoot with Night Court's Markie Post.

Hot Suits

Last month, I featured actor Ted Shackelford, and his bulging speedos, (HERE:) from his appearance in the hot suits issues from US Magazine in the 1980's.  I'd previously posted images and outtakes of other celebrities from the swimsuit issues and thought I'd reached the end when posted the shots of Ted.

After I posted however, I received an e-mail from a viewer asking if I do a piece on Bruce Penhall from the the magazine.  I'd known Bruce had posed for the hot suit issue, and posted a few shots before, but loved getting a reminder that there were more outtakes out there.  These shots, are from his shoot with Shannon Tweed from the April 1993 issue.

Most of you know Shannon from his softcore film mega career in the 80's and 90's, many in which, she got the pants off some of Hollywood's hottest hunks.  Shannon actually inspired a post on FH, (HERE:) after seeing her in Scorned with the beautiful Michael D. Arenz and his incredible bubble butt.

I know Bruce Penhall mostly from seeing images on-line and in magazines.  I don't think I ever saw CHiPs, nor followed his career as a speed racer.  He is though, absolutely adorable and although Shannon never got him totally out of his pants, she did get him down to a speedo, one that beautifully spotlights his baby blue package.

Archives: Blast From The Past

Peter Barton

When I started FH, one of my goals was to only featured some of today's hottest and most talented hunks, but also feature men who impacted my, and others in the past.  So many sites are all about the men of the moment, the current and hottest bodies and moments.  As we all know however, it's hard to stay front burner for too long, at least not without burning out.

Blast From The Past began as my way of spotlighting some of the models, actors and singers who I grew u with.  It soon became so much more.   Although I had connections with many of the men that I featured, I also included actors who I discovered later in life.  There are many actors, who I either didn't like or didn't notice that I looked at differently when I got older.

When I was a kid, I remember thinking that Tom Selleck was sort of 'gross'.  He seemed old, and I hated his moustache, and how hairy he was.  Then... when I hit my thirties, I started looking back on all those shirtless shots of Selleck with a different perspective...   There are also several classic stars from the 40's, 50's and 60's that I never heard of when I was a kid.  Thanks To TCM, I quickly began crushing over actors, many of whom are in their 80's, 90's or no longer with us at all.

This list includes most of those actors, performers, singers and models that I've blasted back to the past with.  I say most, as there are many former heart throbs who showed up in my birthdays or movie section that I have yet to include.  I hope to add them in once I have time to fully research the blog, but this list is a pretty good beginning.   Looking back at some of the posts, especially those from the site's early days, I realize many need an update.  Some were done before I had the ability to cap and create images on my own, and before learning how enlarge an image.  Hoping to update a few of my favorites soon.
